Iso Skin Hacks & At Home Beauty Treatments for Glowing Skin

With many of us back in lock-down, I wanted to share with you some of my favourite "ISO SKIN SECRETS" and my at-home, home-made skin-care treatments that have helped to keep my skin glowy, dewey and healthy during isolation.

One thing I am super passionate about is nourishing my body and skin with natural, chemical free products that I know are good for me. Our skin is our largest organ and acts like a sponge. By this I mean, whatever we put onto our skin will be directly absorbed into our blood stream and have a huge influence over our health, especially our hormones. Therefore, it is extremely important that we are mindful about what products we are using and putting into on onto our body.

As well as using clean products on our skin, we also need to make some daily lifestyle adjustments to keep our skin healthy. So here are my top skin tips that you can start applying to your everyday routine to keep your skin looking it's best.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is key when caring for your skin. Do you want skin that looks plump, dewey and fresh? Well, the best place to start is by increasing your water intake. Aim for 2-3L of clean, filtered water a day. Always keep in mind that skin health first starts from within, so for that well moisturised skin you need to stay hydrated. Take things one step further by adding in lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and/or fresh herbs like mint into your water for added flavour and skin-loving benefits.

Change your pillow case every couple of nights

Your pillow case ends up with a build up of oils, sweat & dirt when used over consecutive nights. This build up of bacteria can impact your skin and actually cause break-outs. Turn your pillow case over each night and change it completely to a fresh pillow case every couple of nights.

Don't wash your face or shower in REALLY hot water

This is something I only recently learnt. Washing your face with really hot water actually dries out your skin and requires you to overcompensate with skin care products which can clog pores and lead to breakouts. The super hot water also strips the skin of it's natural oils. Instead, use lukewarm water.

Sweating actually excretes oils, dirt and bacteria from the skin. When you exercise, your pores are open so always cleanse your skin before and after a workout.

Sleep well

Sleep is the magic period of time where your skin repairs, re-news and replenishes itself. Cortisol levels drop which assists in repairing the damage caused during the day and more collagen is produced during our sleep which promotes youthful looking skin. Aim for 7-8 hours a night, every night.

Below I have for you my nourishing, healthy and super natural face-mask & lip-scrub that I love to do once a week. This is the ultimate form of self-care.

"If you wouldn't eat it, don't put it on your skin" and boy are you going to have to resist eating my skin treatments below. They both use very common ingredients that you are bound to have in your cupboard/fridge and if not, they are super easy and affordable to find at your local supermarket.

Invigorating Face Mask

1 tablespoon Cacao powder

1 Avocado

1 tablespoon Oatmeal

1 tablespoon lukewarm water (add as necessary)

4-5 drops of rose-hip oil (optional)

Add all ingredients into a bowl and mix until a thick paste forms. Add in water as required.

Apply to face-mask to a freshly cleansed face and leave on for approx. 15minutes. If irritation occurs remove immediately and cleanse skin.

Honey Acai Lip Scrub

1 teaspoon Acai Powder

1 tablespoon raw honey or manuka honey

1-2 tablespoon raw sugar

Add all ingredients into a bowl and mix until a thick paste forms. Add in water as required.

Use a small amount of the scrub and rub onto lips in circular motions. Rise and then apply your favourite lip-balm.
